People ask us every week which cards to buy. The honest answer is that most cards are not an investment. They are cardboard with a picture on it, and there are millions of them. The few that hold value share a short list of traits, and once you know the list you stop wasting money.

Start with scarcity. A numbered card that says one of ninety nine on the back will always have a smaller pool than a base card printed by the million. Rookie cards matter for the same reason. There is only one rookie year, and it never comes back.

Then look at condition. A graded card with a nine or a ten can be worth many times the same card raw. Centering, corners, edges, and surface all get scored. Hold the card up to a light before you buy it, and look at the corners under a lens.

Player and set matter last, not first. A famous name on a common card is still a common card. A quiet name on a short print run can outrun it. We have watched both happen on the same shelf in the same month.

Buy what you like, buy it in the best condition you can afford, and hold it. That is the whole strategy. Everything else is noise.
